So in my ever ending quest to tinker, I've been curious about this little extra white wire that came with my Rigid Light bar (the kit thing that Ford Performance sells).

- Since I'm still new here, I don't yet have a radio so the only way I can go on calls is if I'm at the station. Since it's in the middle of winter, that's been leading me to put effort towards things I can do on the computer and my Bronco.
- Eventually I will be allowed to put emergency flasher lights on my Bronco, so I can respond directly to incidents, rather than go to the station first.
- well, my inner Tim Taylor comes out sometimes
I did 5 minutes of researching and found out that Rigid makes a "Radiance" version of their light bars, which basically has a color changing LED backlighting. Turns out the Rigid light bar that came in the Ford Performance light kit sure looks a lot like the Radiance version. I normally wouldn't care about something like this, but with the thought that I may respond to car accidents on the side of the road, some extra lighting options may be useful.
So obviously I proceeded to void whatever warranty I may or may not have and started taking it apart to figure out what the deal was. I thought I got a picture of it, but I can't find it, so I guess not, but when I first took the side cap loose, the little white wire was cut and simply not soldered to the circuit board. Dang, all I need to do is solder this little white wire to the board, and poof I'll have me a free backlighting upgrade!
But alas, life is not so. After more time than I care to admit, I came to the realization that Rigid also did not include the little backlighting LEDs to the circuit board, and some other components appear missing as well. Although the housing and circuit board are most definitely the same as the Radiance version, it's just not going happen. I could get the RGB diodes and I'm sure all the other components as well, but I decided to cut my losses and just put it back together. I don't really know what other components would be used, you can see in the picture above there's a few things missing. I know enough about circuit boards to be dangerous, but also enough to know when to quit, and this is that for me.
So I will continue on my Bronco life with a boring old basic light bar, and will have to figure out other lighting options down the road. I'm putting this out here in case anybody else was curious about that extra little white wire like I was...yes it's kinda there for a reason, and no, it's not worth messing with.
